When the time comes in a resident’s life when hospice care is appropriate, Windsong Care provides in-facility hospice services and works closely with families and hospice staff to ensure the residents’ comfort during this stage of the life journey. Throughout the years, we at Windsong Care have had the opportunity to work with many different hospices in the East Valley. As with everything else, we are happy to assist the family in choosing the hospice that is right for their loved one.
Many families have questions regarding hospice care and when it is the right time for their loved one to begin services. There are many factors to take into consideration, but, in general, residents go on hospice when they are nearing the end of their life. This can present as a physical decline, recurring infections that can no longer be treated with antibiotics, significant weight loss, reduction in eating and intake of fluids, an increase in emergency room visits and/or hospitalizations, or when the decision has been made to focus on comfort/symptom management as opposed to aggressive curative treatments.
All hospices provide a variety of services to assist the staff at Windsong in caring for the resident. This includes 24/7 support, weekly visits from a registered nurse, medications, equipment and supplies provided to the resident under their hospice benefit, assistance from hospice aides, and visits from volunteers and spiritual counselors. Regardless of which hospice is chosen, the main goal of any hospice should always align with Windsong Care’s pledge to preserve the quality of life and dignity of the resident.
